The Pump House, ShrewsburyMarches Energy Agency is a Shrewsbury based social enterprise which promotes energy reduction and renewable energy solutions across the Midlands. They work to address fuel poverty and enhance local energy security and resilience.
Marches Energy Agency are based at the Pump House in Coton hill which hosts a cluster of innovative enterprises all benefitting from its town centre location enabling easy use of public transport, cycling and walking to work.
The Centre is an ‘eco’ redevelopment of an old waterworks sited in Shrewsbury Town Centre on the banks of the River Severn. Part of the building was renovated with the remainder being a high quality extension.
The building has been awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Certification, which is the highest level possible.
The building has exceptionally high levels of insulation and air-tightness coupled with a full ventilation and heat recovery system to reduce heat losses.
The building is heated by a very low carbon wood pellet boiler and hot water for the taps is powered by solar thermal panels on the roof.
There is also 10m2 of south facing photovoltaic panels generating electricity that is fed into the national grid.
In order to reduce the amount of cleaned water used rain water from the roof is recovered and used for toilet flushes.
Marches Energy Agency recycles most of its paper and plastics and has a policy of prioritising public transport use.
