Calculating your carbon footprint will help to see not only how much you’re contributing to climate change but also what activities contribute most; electricity, heating or travel.
But beware, it uses very low figures for emissions from flying, multiply by 3 for a sensible figure.
Some sites offer more detailed calculators, eg www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx
but different calculators often produce different figures!
Or contact an energy advisor, Stretton Climate Care, ReaVen or the Household Energy Service.
Carbon Offsets
Are often offered as a way of massaging guilt over high carbon emissions. It’s important to get your carbon emissions down as much as possible.
Once that’s done, or for occasional luxuries, carbon offsetting can play a limited role, see
http://www.carbonneutral.com/knowledge-centre/offsetting-explained/
